Holidays are a fantastic time to relax, unwind, and have a break from your daily routine. However, it’s also good to maintain an active lifestyle and prioritize your health even when you’re away from home. By incorporating exercise and physical activity into your holiday plans, you can stay fit, energized, and make the most of your time away. In this blog, we’ll explore some practical tips to help you stay active and exercise while on holiday.

  1. Plan Ahead: Whilst planning your holiday, take a moment to look for nearby parks, hiking trails, beaches, or fitness centers that may offer activities you enjoy. Planning ahead will ensure you have a variety of options to choose from once you arrive.
  2. Pack Your Exercise Essentials: Make room in your luggage for exercise essentials such as workout clothes, comfortable shoes, resistance bands, and a jump rope. Having these items with you will eliminate any excuses for not staying active while on holiday.
  3. Explore the Outdoors: One of the best ways to exercise and enjoy your holiday simultaneously is by exploring the outdoors. Take advantage of the beautiful scenery and engage in activities like hiking, biking, swimming, or simply walking along the beach. Not only will you burn calories, but you’ll also get to experience the destination from a unique perspective
  4. Opt for Active Sightseeing: Instead of relying solely on guided tours or transportation, consider incorporating active sightseeing into your itinerary. Explore the city or town by foot or rent bicycles to get around. This way, you’ll get exercise while visiting popular attractions and discovering hidden gems.
  5. Utilize Hotel Facilities: If your accommodation offers a gym or swimming pool, take advantage of it.  Get up 30 minutes earlier and hit the gym, or swim in the pool before heading out for the day.
  6. Incorporate Mini Workouts: Even if you’re short on time, you can still squeeze in quick workouts throughout your day. Perform bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks in your hotel room or on the beach. These exercises require minimal space and equipment but provide an effective workout.
  7. Stay Active During Travel: Long flights or road trips can lead to extended periods of sitting. Combat this by incorporating movement during your journey. Take short walks during layovers, stretch in-flight, or make regular stops during road trips to stretch your legs and get your blood flowing.  I like walking up and down the plane and performing stretches at the end of the plane.
  8. Listen to Your Body and Rest: While staying active during your holiday is crucial, it’s equally important to listen to your body and allow for adequate rest. Don’t push yourself too hard and take breaks when needed. Rest and recovery are essential for maintaining energy levels and preventing injuries.

Maintaining an active lifestyle while on holiday doesn’t have to be a challenge. By incorporating these tips into your travel plans, you can maintain your fitness, stay energized whilst enjoying your holiday.
